HOW IT ALL BEGAN…

Mel & I grew up less than a mile apart and even went to the same middle school, but it wasn’t until college when we first got to know each other.

I met Mel through my best friend Alec towards the end of high school. The first time I really got to know Mel was when I was visiting Alec in San Diego and one night we were all hanging out at Mel’s place. I instantly knew there was something special about her. Even though we only spent a short time together, I was left with a strong interest to get to know her better.

Since we were living hundreds of miles apart, we only saw each other a few times when our mutual friends would get together during the summer. It was on these nights when I couldn’t help but smile as I saw this beautiful girl smiling, dancing, and always making sure everyone was taken care of and having a good time. When these weekends together would end, I would never forget the girl from back home.

Not long after I finished school, I moved back into the area and after some time Mel and I started seeing each other again. Soon we were dating and nearly right away I knew she was the woman I would marry. Over the next couple years our relationship grew and now I happily get to say I am marrying my best friend.

It’s crazy to think it’s been a year since I got down on my knee and now here we are planning a wedding. We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you!

The Proposal

Cody and I were headed to Carmel for the weekend with plans to go to our favorite winery, have a nice dinner and enjoy a calm weekend - just the two of us. After wine tasting for most of the day, we rushed to dinner and were told our table wasn’t quite ready. Naturally, I walked in the direction of the bar but Cody suggested we take a walk through the garden. Walking hand in hand with a slight buzz from the wine, Cody stops me, looks straight at me with a smile, and in that moment I knew. I honestly don’t remember a single word other than I love you and will you marry me.

I said ‘oh my god, are you doing this right now’ and ‘YES!’. Before I could say another word, Cody pointed down the long walkway in front of us where Nat and Monty popped out from behind the hedges. Then, second after second, some of my best friends and both our families were there to celebrate with us. After all the happy tears, Cody told me how the entire weekend was planned so we could celebrate with our favorite people. We spent the weekend eating, drinking, laughing, crying (a lot) and dancing…

With full hearts and one very sprained ankle, it was a truly incredible weekend and I owe it all to the man I love (…and Cardi B)
